Robots

Cetain robots have the ability to move. They are found in the tranport, exploration, surveillance, detection and war. Other robots are fixed and often organized into automated systems. They are found in the manufacturing industry and in the field of food or biotechnology. Some robots have a human form and are called androids.

Automated systems

Robots and automated systems have revolutionized factory, airplane, subway, space exploration and the sea, war, medical laboratories, entertainment, arts, care for the disabled, money transfer and now they revolutionize automotive, security and maintenance, medicine and agriculture.

Control of robots

The part that allows the robot to manage information is called a "processor". The set of instructions that determine the behavior of a robot is called a "program". This program is generally describes to the robot by means of an appropriate "language", but sometimes it is "learned" by the robot.

Components of robots

To enable its actions, a robot may be equipped with manipulation tools and grippers which are called arms and hands, by analogy with the human. More generally, we call "actuator" the part of a robot that allows it to make an "action". To interact with its environment, a robot needs to know its characteristics. The part of the robot that permits it to "see", "listen" or more generally to "detect", is called a "sensor".

Androids, Arts and Theater

The Androids, which are robots with human form, are often used in situations of interaction with humans: service in restaurants, cinemas or personal cares. Shows are now incorporating automated systems: lifting of the scene, of decors or of peoples, programming of the lights and sound, ticket booth and even ushers. The cinema is no exception: programming of camera motions, special effects, robotic characters and robotic vehicles. Finally, robots are used for creating music or making sculptures.
